One-Day State Level Seminar on “CHALLENGES OF SOCIAL JUSTICE IN THE ENVIRONMENT OF GLOBALIZATION” on 7 April 2011.
The seminar was inaugurated by Nadoja Justice Dr.S.R.Nayak, Chairman, Karnataka State Human Rights Commission. He propounded the human values envisaged in the notion social justice and how it is affected in the context of globalization. The first plenary session was started with the speech of Dr.L.Hanumanthaiah, a well known writer in Kannada. He spoke at length about the conflicting interests in globalization and reservation and how they could affect a healthy society. Dr.N.Gayathri, an activist and a writer, who spoke next, felt that women’s issues are marginalized in the globalized context. Market values have affected women much more strongly in the globalized world than any time before, she opined. Dr.B.A.Sanadi, a Kannada writer chaired the session. In the post lunch session, Professor G.Shivarama Krishnan, a sociologist, presented his views on the impact of globalization on the local culture. Later Professor R.K. Hudagi, State President of Samudaya, Bangalore, spoke on the impact of globalization on class conflicts that are prevalent in our society.
The Valedictory speech was given by the Director of Collegiate Education in Karnataka, Professor K.V.Kodandaramaiah.
